VMR3 grew up attending the Puerto Rican Day Parade and experiencing the pride, vibrancy, and energy of New York City's Puerto Rican community firsthand. Those experiences continue to inspire his work today, and he is honored to create pieces that celebrate the beauty, resilience, and cultural legacy of Puerto Ricans in New York and beyond.

The Story Behind the Collection
Inspired by this year’s parade theme, “Somos Más Que 100 x 35,” which translates to “We are bigger than 100 x 35,” VMR3. reimagined the Paper Plane logo through the Puerto Rican flag to represent the journey of Puerto Ricans around the world, people who continue to build, create, and thrive wherever they go while carrying the island with them every step of the way and affirming that the island’s influence travels far beyond its geographic size. This collection draws inspiration from the original light blue of Puerto Rico’s first flag, honoring the island’s history while celebrating its enduring spirit. The designs feature the Coquí, a native frog whose unmistakable call echoes throughout Puerto Rico and serves as a symbol of home for many across the diaspora. The Coquí is surrounded by symbols of legacy, wearing the Pava, a straw hat worn by Jíbaros, and the Flor de Maga, which is the national flower of Puerto Rico. The Coquí is dancing to highlight the long history Puerto Ricans have with breakdancing and hip-hop. Together, these elements symbolize the many influences of the island throughout the diaspora.
